A love of animals that started when I was a child and the birth of my daughter led me to establish this bakery. All my life it seemed as if I had a dog attached to my hip. It started when I was a baby and my dog Sandy and I were so connected that she acted like a mother to me. When I was 13 my love affair really escalated when I started raising puppies for the blind. I could not imagine life without my dog at my side. In 2004 I lost my beloved Danny to bloat. We had battled allergies and numerous other health issues for the last 4 years of his life. Now that I had a child I decided I wanted to work from home and what better way then to produce healthy all natural treats for pets like my Danny Boy, whose picture is on my packaging. After reading much about health and nutrition for people, I thought something organic and all natural should be available for pets and my current dogs Sasha and Koka were right there with tails wagging and mouths drooling.
Many pet bakeries say they use all natural ingredients and no sugar or salt, but in reality they use vegetable oil, soup base or bouillon (which is flavored salt), peanut butter (which usually has added sugar, salt and/or artificial sweeteners), and applesauce (which often contains sugar or artificial sweeteners). I chose to use only 100% organic all natural ingredients including:
Homemade organic beef stock—which contains only filtered water and organic soup bones. I boil the bones in water all day until nothing is left on the bone. Then I remove all the fat. I puree up the meat from the bones and add it to the stock to make a slurry.
Organic olive oil
Fair Trade alcohol free vanilla
Freshly ground organic peanut butter
Fresh organic fruit
I also only use whole oat flour, oat bran and oatmeal which help cleanse the body and encourage new tissue growth. Don’t be fooled by some bakeries who claim to use white flour for dogs with wheat allergies. White flour is simply bleached wheat flour.
Because I use no preservatives I suggest storing the treats in the container on the counter or better yet in the refrigerator or freezer if they last that long. Never store them in the sun or near heat.
